INFORMATION

We want to welcome you to Høvik school in Bærum, Norway. Our school was opened on May 3rd 1897, and you can still see some of the original parts in the old brick building. We are proud to have an old school, bearing meaningful traditions. Still, a modern school has new demands and the number of pupils is increasing, so we are in the process of rebuilding the school. The estimated day of the reconstruction is Jan. 1st 2010. During the building period, the pupils will be transferred to a substitute school.

This year we have 460 pupils, divided into 21 groups from 1st to 7th grade. Over 230 of the children are in SFO, a before and after school activity.
Our number of employees comes up to 55, 35 of these are teachers.

It is of importance to us to be a cultural part of our surroundings. Therefore we emphasise putting up plays and having gatherings for all the children, where they get to show their various talents. Naturally we work hard to give all the children the education they need to have good skills in the various subjects, especially in reading and writing, maths and English according to the national plan for education.

There is no grade system from 1st to 7th grade in the Norwegian school. However, the parents are invited to 2 annual evaluation talks with the class teacher. At some of these, the child is present. There are also 2 annual class meeting for the parents. It is important that you get in touch with the class teacher or the school administration if you at any time have questions concerning you child or feel that you need to give us necessary information. We aim to cooperate well with the parents so that we can help the child settling well at our school.

6th grade always have an overnight trip to an area called Burudvann in September and by the end of 6th grade /beginning of 7th grade, the groups will be going on camp for a few days. There are several activity days during the school year, one of which is a day of winter activities. You will always have information in advance.

It is important that the parents make sure the pupil has clothes that suits the season, that they bring lunch, that they do their homework, and that they bring the necessary books to school.
If you for any reason need to take your child out of school, you will need to apply on a form that you can find on Høvik school’s homepage www.hovikskole.no  under the heading “skjemaer”. The homepage also has a calendar for the school year. You will find the mail addresses to the teachers under the heading “ansatte”.

Welcome to our school!
